A disastrous competition is going on in England, with billions of dollarsand hundreds of lives in danger. OK, that's not true. But competitors fromaround the world gathered on Thursday to compete for the title of 2012’sWorld's Biggest Liar.
Each participant is given up to five minutes to make up the best lie in thecompetition, which was started in honor of 19th-century Bridge Inn ownerWill Ritson, who was reportedly famous for his lies. Competitors gather atthe Bridge Inn every year for the competition, a small pub in northwesternEngland. Anyone can take part in the competition. Well, almost anyway; thereporters note that lawyers and politicians are banned, who is said to enjoy\"an unfair advantage\" in the proceedings (进程).
A study published this past July in the journal Evolution & HumanBehavior found that nearly all lies are detectable through visible facialmuscle (肌肉) reactions in the person telling a lie. “Thus, while interpersonal

Mistrust Mars Zhengzhou Ride-share EffortMore than 300 private car owners from a central Chinese cityvolunteered to offer free rides to citizens to ease crowded publictransportation, but many local people didn't accept the offer for fear of

Pulling luggage through the airport can be a pain, as any frequenttraveler will tell you. A new suitcase called only “Hop” is looking to changeall of that, though, using signals from your cell phone to go hands-free.
According to Hop’s official website, the suitcase uses three sensors (感应器) to identify the Bluetooth signal from your phone and pick you out of acrowd. Once it’s done that, a microprocessor not only figures out Hop’sposition as it relates to your phone, but controls the two caterpillar tracks(履带) in the bottom of the unit to get it moving. Hop follows behind theuser at a constant distance, so you don’t have to worry about it “stepping”on your heels, so to speak. If it loses the signal it’s following, your phone willvibrate, letting you know that your poor suitcase is lost and alone in a sea ofstrange people.
We can see Hop in action in the video below, and we have to say that itlooks like a great little device. There’s just one problem: it looks as if you’llhave to walk at a relatively slow pace to keep the suitcase from losing thesignal. Since a walk through an airport is rarely a leisurely experience, thatcould potentially cause troubles. Also, don’t expect TSA agents to just smileand wave as you walk through security with a remote-controlled suitcasetailing you.
Still, the idea behind Hop is really cool, and we’re willing to believe thatthere are some frequent flyers who would like to put down some money forit right this instant. However, this is just a model at the moment, so don’texpect it to be available for sale anytime soon (if it ever is, for that matter).Would you purchase one of these if Hop ever became availablecommercially?
66. What is “to go hands-free”?
A. The new suitcase. B. Your cell phone.
C. Signals from your cell phone. D. Frequent travelers.67. Which paragraph tells about how Hop works?
A. Paragraph One. B. Paragraph Two. C. Paragraph Three. D.Paragraph Four.
68. The article is probably taken from _____.
A. Hop’s official website B. a website of worldwide newsC. a Western newspaper D. a Chinese newspaper
69. According to the article, Hop may run into trouble because _____.
A. your cell phone fails to tell you Hop is lost B. its caterpillar tracksaren’t powerful enough
C. you usually walk too fast for Hop to follow D. TSA agents won’t bepatient enough
70. What does the writer think of the invention?
A. Hop will be in production soon. B. Hop is sure to be popularsomeday.
C. It’s silly to have thought of that. D. Hop might never go on sale.

There is a unique place where deserted factories have beentransformed into a lively artistic zone – where the city's tradition andheritage (遗产) meet with cutting-edge art and fashion. This is Redtory.
Located at Yuancun Si Heng Lu, not far from the Pearl River ofGuangzhou city, Redtory is a creative cultural and industrial zone made up ofmore than 30 old buildings – mostly red-brick ones. Back in 1956, it used tobe the biggest canning factory in China. The factory produced the Can Dace(鲮鱼) with Black Bean Sauce, an iconic food product in the last century,well-known throughout south-east Asia. After the local government'sindustrial structure reformations, the canning factory moved away and theworkshops were left deserted. There was nothing left but memories in well-preserved Soviet-style buildings.
Not long after the noise of the running machines was gone, posters ofadvertisement and art were found hanging on the wall in the area. To enrichthe cultural and artistic life of the people in Guangzhou, the abandonedfactories reopened in 2009 – displaying art, fashion and culture of differentforms. Redtory is home to more than 40 establishments including artgalleries, themed restaurants and design studios. Large international culturalexchange activities, art exhibitions and seminars are often held here, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Meanwhile, wastematerials have been used wisely instead of being thrown away. For instance, some installations (设施) standing around the area are made up of the rustymachines or components from the old canning factory.
The shabby and nostalgic (怀旧的) appearance combined with
fashionable and artistic features makes Redtory uniquely attractive. Thatmay be the reason that Redtory is considered the holy land for young art-lovers in Guangzhou.

第II卷(共45分)
第四部分 书面表达(共两节,满分45分)
第1节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)

[1] It’s 9 a.m, the morning rush hour in Toronto. A man has fallen down
on a downtown street suddenly. Several passersby stop to help the man.One woman reaches into her purse for her cell phone and hits 911, theemergency number. Three minutes later, sirens (警报) are heard in thedistance as a police car, an ambulance and a fire truck race to the area.Within ten minutes, the stricken man is in the back of an ambulance andwent to the hospital for life-saving treatment.
[2] This scene is fairly common in Toronto and other major cities. Overthe years, cities have developed systems to respond quickly to emergencies. It has resulted in many lives being saved. But none of this __________without the cooperation of car drivers who yield (让路) to emergencyvehicles on busy downtown streets. In fact, it’s against the law for driversnot to yield.
[3] To yield means to give away or, more specifically, to get out of theway. It means pulling to the side of the road to let others pass. As yet, Chinadoes not have any specific laws that require drivers to yield, whether it is forslower cars to move over to the inside lane of a highway or for all cars togive way to emergency vehicles. Recently, an injured Beijing cyclist died onthe way to hospital because the ambulance carrying him got stuck in citytraffic. Drivers did not yield when they heard the ambulance’s siren.
[4] In Canada, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle can result in a fineof $400-$2,000 and reduction of three points off your license. That’s for afirst offence. A second offence results in a bigger fine, the loss of yourdriver’s license for two years and a possible jail sentence. The punishment issevere because lives are in danger.
[5] Safe driving depends on drivers being aware of the traffic aroundthem and yielding when necessary. And yielding to emergency vehicles onlymakes sense. It saves lives and, who knows, someday it may save your own.

M: Don’t worry about that. It’s impossible. All the ski runs are carefullymarked. And if there is something that might be dangerous, like a cliff ofsomething, then they often put a fence around it.W: I think I’m going to break my leg.
M: No, you’re not. First I’ll ski with you for half an hour or so. We’ll go on thebunny hill. Then you’ll have your lesson at 10:45.W: What is the ‘bunny hill’?
M: The bunny hill is the easiest run on the mountain. It isn’t steep at all. It isfor first-time skiers. Don’t worry about this. It will be fun!
W: So they have runs for different kinds of skiers? They have runs foradvanced skiers and runs for beginners?
M: Absolutely. Look at this map. The advanced runs are marked with blackdiamonds and the beginner runs have green circles. Look, theintermediate runs have blue squares.W: So why don’t I get a map like that?
M: I’ll get you one. But you don’t need it right now, because you will bestaying on the bunny hill, probably until lunch at least.
